| SYDNEY WELSH CHOIR REPORT JULY
2005
The
Sydney Welsh Choir was given a great reception by
the audience at the Opera House at the concert with the
British & Irish Lions Choir on July 11. The choir sang
alone and as part of larger groups, including the massed
choir of 300 voices. There are still at least thirteen
concerts to perform in the remainder of the year, including
two with Jacques Renay and one with the Leichhardt Brass
Band, and two on the tour to Cowra and Grenfell on the
October long weekend. Even so, choir members are still
thinking further ahead, to the amazing overseas tour in
September and October, when the choir will stay and sing
in some wonderful European settings: Rome, Naples, Assisi,
Florence, Lake Geneva, Berne, Heidelberg, Bonn, Bruges
and Ypres before arriving in Britain. Venues in England & Wales
include York Minster and the cathedrals at Winchester,
Brecon and St David’s, along with concert venues
at Haverfordwest, Pontypool, Hartlepool and Worthing. Other
places on the tour list include Cardiff, Tenby, Stratford-upon-Avon,
Bath, Portsmouth and Windsor. Anyone wishing to join the
tour should email [email protected] as soon as possible.
The choir has DVDs of the last European tour in 2002 which
will give outsiders a taste of the joys of touring with
the Sydney Welsh Choir. New members joining the choir in
the very near future would be eligible for the generous
choir discount on the tour price, which is already the
best value on the market.
